Why these work

What you get

High-security key locks

Barrel key locks with a flush hinged cover plate so you are not bending down to unlock.

Galvanised & powder-coated

A hard-wearing outdoor finish in safety yellow, black, stainless or a custom colour.

Most of our in-ground bollards are designed so that a competent DIYer can install them. This is a general overview of what is involved. Always follow the instructions supplied with your product, and check for underground services before you drill or dig.

Before you start

  • Check for services. Locate water, gas, electrical and telecommunications services before drilling. If you are not certain, arrange a service locate.
  • Confirm your surface. In-ground bollards need a suitable depth of concrete or a footing. Thin slabs, pavers and driveways over services may need a different approach.
  • Plan the spacing. Work out where each bollard needs to sit so vehicles are stopped where you want them, and so that gates, doors and turning circles still work.
  • Check the fit. Dry-fit the sleeve and the bollard before you mix any concrete.

What you will usually need

  • Core drill or jackhammer suitable for your surface
  • Spirit level and tape measure
  • Rapid-set or standard concrete mix, bucket and trowel
  • Marking paint or chalk
  • PPE: eye protection, hearing protection, gloves and steel-cap boots

Typical steps

  1. Mark out. Mark the centre of each bollard position and double-check spacing and clearances.
  2. Open the hole. Core or break out a hole large enough to take the in-ground sleeve with room for concrete around it.
  3. Clean it out. Remove spoil, dust and water so the concrete can bond.
  4. Set the sleeve. Position the sleeve at the correct height, check it is plumb in both directions, and hold it square while you pour.
  5. Pour and finish. Fill around the sleeve, work out any air pockets, and finish the surface flush so water drains away from the sleeve.
  6. Let it cure. Leave the concrete to cure before loading the bollard. Curing times vary with the mix and the weather.
  7. Fit and test. Insert the bollard, test the lock and the cover plate, and keep your keys somewhere sensible.
